Buck Valley Ranch LLC
Bed and Breakfast

Warfordsburg, Pennsylvania

Buck Valley Ranch LLC, a year round resort located in the Appalachian Mountains of south central Pennsylvania, offers trail riding and other outdoor activities in a secluded setting. We are surrounded by 2000 acres of State Game land. Our rural location offers you peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.

You have the opportunity to view flora and fauna in every season. From the large front porch you can watch hummingbirds feed, listen to whippoorwills on a summer night, hear owls screech, turkeys gobble, geese honk and doves coo. Deer can be seen feeding, while fox, rabbits, and squirrels scamper across the fields. If you are lucky, you might catch a glimpse of bear or coyote.

The mountains are filled with redbuds and dogwoods in the spring. Early summer brings the mountain laurel. Fall offers glorious colors and winter pristine snow covered fields. There are many different varieties of wildflowers and edible berries, too. On a clear night, there are more stars visible than you thought possible.

Meals are prepared from locally raised meats, fresh vegetables, homemade breads and desserts. Beans and franks are served only upon request! Meals are healthy and filling. All meals are served in the dining room at prearranged times. There is also plenty to snack on in between meals. We can accommodate special dietary requests with advance notice.

We invite you to enjoy our relaxed atmosphere and sincere hospitality. We are an environment friendly operation and try to make as little impact on the land as possible. We encourage our guests to experience a farm/ranch way of living and use the opportunity to learn a new way of life.

The Guest House

The Guesthouse

The guest house was built around 1930. It is for our guests exclusively. The house has central air (a luxury seldom needed in our cool mountain air) plus several bedrooms have individual air conditioners.

The Common Room

There is a common living room, dining room and 1½ shared bathrooms. Guests have access to a refrigerator. Cowboy memorabilia and antiques help make the guest house a comfortable and fun place to stay. There are an abundance of books to read, games to play and things to remember from days gone by.

Guest Rooms

Bedroom 1

The four bedrooms can accommodate eight people very comfortably, but if you have a larger group, it will hold up to twelve people. There is also a sofa bed in the living room.

Bedroom 2

One bedroom has a double bed; a second a double bed and a double/single bunk bed; the third a double bed and a trundle bed; the fourth (on the first floor) has a double and a single bed.

We strive to run safe trips. All guests should realize the inherent dangers in horseback riding and other outdoor activities. They should be in good physical condition. Each guest will be required to sign an "Agreement to Participate and An Affirmation of Risk". Guests under the age of eighteen need a parent's signature on the agreement. Only parents and legal guardians can sign these forms. These forms can be mailed to you in advance of your stay with us. Obviously, persons of extra large size may not be able to be adequately accommodated. Please understand.

We ride Western. All of the rides are guided. The mountain terrain does not lend itself to trotting or cantering; therefore, all riding is at a walking pace. We do not allow double riding. Children must wear helmets, which we provide. Riders with no experience are welcome and we will strive to see that your first ride will be enjoyable. We always give a demonstration on how to ride and encourage your questions at any time. Those riders who feel comfortable in the saddle will also enjoy our scenic and challenging mountain trails.

Ranch life is casual. Jeans and boots will see you through a weekend of riding and other activities. Temperatures here are generally ten to twenty degrees cooler than in the Baltimore/Washington area. A light jacket is advisable for summer evenings. Sorry, but pets are not permitted. Alcohol is permitted. Smoking is permitted in certain outside areas.

We are conveniently located near Interstate 70, about 2½ hours east of Pittsburgh, 2 hours northwest of Baltimore - Washington D.C. - Northern Virginia, and 5 hours from New York City.
